One caveat matters more than the rest, and it cuts against the tidy version of this article. The two most detailed hands-on reports on Headshot Kiwi — published at Codingem in August 2025 and at AI Headshot Dude in July 2025 — carry the same byline, Artturi Jalli. Both disclose affiliate links, and both close by recommending the same alternative tool with the same discount code.
So when their findings match almost exactly, that is not two testers converging on a truth. It is one tester writing twice, with a commercial reason to prefer a third product. We still cite the observations, because they are specific and partly checkable against customer reviews — but treat them as one data point from 2025, not corroboration. You upload a set of selfies, it builds a personalised model, and an hour or two later you get dozens or hundreds of portraits across preset backgrounds and outfits. The pitch is volume and speed at a low price, and on those two axes it delivers what it says.
What it costs
Pricing is a one-off purchase with no subscription. As published in August 2026, three tiers are listed, each at fifty per cent off a higher regular price alongside a scarcity counter. That discount appears to be permanently on, so read the discounted figure as the real price rather than a deal you have caught.

That works out at roughly $0.73, $0.33 and $0.24 per image, which is genuinely cheap by category standards. But per-image cost is a misleading metric for headshots, because you need exactly one good photo, not two hundred mediocre ones. The number that matters is cost per usable image, and we come back to it with real arithmetic below.
What it needs from you
This is the heavier lift of the two tools. The homepage instructs you to upload ten images of yourself, varied across expressions, backgrounds and lighting. The published hands-on report found the actual upload gate was thirteen images, and described repeated attempts before the set was accepted.
That requirement is not a flaw — it is how a fine-tuned model earns likeness, since more angles and lighting conditions give it more to generalise from. Output quality and its reported failure modes
Here the picture gets less flattering, though the evidence base is narrower than the volume of published reviews suggests. The detailed hands-on account bought the $39 tier and reported that roughly eight to ten of the 120 images actually looked good, with a broader thirty to forty usable at a lower bar. The problems described were consistent rather than random.
- Softness at full size. Images were described as blurry or pixelated when zoomed in. That is survivable for a LinkedIn thumbnail and fatal for a speaker page, press kit or anything printed.

- Attribute drift. A Trustpilot reviewer reports that every generated image straightened their curly hair despite source photos showing otherwise, that buying a higher tier produced more of the same, and that the same photos sent to another tool returned accurate texture.
- No editing layer. There is no retouch, re-roll or refine step. You get the batch, and if the batch is wrong your only recourse is a refund request.
- Platform roughness. The published tester logged silent photo rejections, two site crashes, an unresponsive start button after payment, and no notification when processing finished.
Run the arithmetic honestly, and give the tool the benefit of the range. If $39 buys 120 images and nine are genuinely good, that is about $4.30 per keeper; at the looser count of thirty-five it is closer to $1.10. Both are far cheaper than a studio session, and both are a different proposition from $0.33.
One caveat on all of that: those observations date from mid-2025, and generation models improve quickly. A tool that produced soft output a year ago may not today. Headshot Kiwi's public position on data is reasonable and specific, which is more than many tools in this category manage. The site states uploaded photos are deleted within seven days and that you can delete them instantly at any point sooner, with processing described as happening on its own protected infrastructure.
The refund terms deserve a careful read, because the headline and the fine print are not the same document. The marketing promise is a Profile-Worthy guarantee: if you do not get a single profile-worthy headshot, the site says it will refund your entire purchase. The published policy is narrower, and easy to trip over by accident.

Who Headshot Kiwi genuinely suits
It is a defensible pick when your requirement is narrow and your tolerance is high: you need a LinkedIn thumbnail, you want it today, $29 to $39 is your ceiling, and you can live with a low hit rate. It is the wrong tool if the image will ever be seen large — conference programmes, book jackets, print — or if you have hair texture or features the model may drift on, since nothing can be corrected after the batch arrives.

The free claim is real at the edges and softer in the middle, which is normal for this business model and worth understanding before you invest time. Testers describe something different. The most detailed published review reports forced sign-up before generating anything, paid plans presented immediately after registration, and payment prompts appearing before results. Trustpilot reviewers echo the gap between the no-sign-up marketing and the account requirement, and complain the daily free allowance is too thin to do much with.
The mechanism is a two-currency system, documented by third-party guides and consistent with those complaints: a small daily allowance of free credits, plus separately purchased coins that the substantial generations actually require. That policy has limits in practice. A Trustpilot reviewer describes buying coins to test the face-swap tool, getting inconsistent results, and being refused a refund on the grounds that a roughly fifty per cent success rate was expected behaviour rather than a fault. Whatever you make of that case, it is a reminder that "unusual" is defined by the vendor.
Input requirements and speed
This is Supawork's genuine advantage, and it is a real one. The generator page asks for a single well-lit, high-quality selfie with the face clearly visible, noting more photos improve results but are not required. Output is described as arriving in seconds. There is no dozen-photo homework and no waiting for a model to train.
That speed comes from the method. Rather than fine-tuning a model on your face, a one-photo tool conditions a generation on the single image you supplied. It is fast and cheap to run, and it inherits a specific limitation: the system has seen your face from exactly one angle, in one lighting condition, wearing one expression.
Output quality and its characteristic failure modes
Reported quality is better than the free-tool stereotype suggests. The published review scored it 7.5 out of 10, describing results as realistic and sharp, polished enough to pass as a corporate studio shot, with the outfit upgraded and a professional backdrop applied. The weaknesses below are structural rather than sloppy, and follow from the single-input architecture.
- Likeness ceiling. One photo defines the model's entire understanding of your face. Profile angles, expressions and lighting the source never showed are invented, and inventions drift away from you.

It fits low-stakes, fast-turnaround needs: a Slack avatar, a conference attendee profile, or a first look at whether an AI portrait suits you at all. It is a poor fit when likeness accuracy is the actual requirement. If the photo will be seen by people who later meet you — recruiters, clients, an audience — a one-photo generator is working with the least information of any approach available, including a phone propped on a windowsill.

A simple rule covers most people. Some limitations are not vendor-specific and will not be fixed by switching products, ours included. The first is that models tend to regress toward attractive averages: small asymmetries, a distinctive nose, the particular way your smile pulls to one side all get quietly smoothed. The result can be technically excellent and subtly not you, which is the worst outcome for a photo whose whole job is recognition.
